West End vs. Chongqing

A picture similar to this appeared recently in the Boston Globe (and on Harry Mattison's blog) about a woman in Chongqing, China who is defying the developers there.

I can't help but notice the similarity with Boston's West End circa 1950s, which has appeared twice in the Globe in the past few months:

This kind of large-scale redevelopment isn't done anymore... wait, I momentarily forgot about the Big Dig.
