Bad Gas Mileage in a Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius hybrid car -- like most automobiles produced for sale in the U.S. -- has rapidly decreasing fuel efficiency as the vehicle's speed increases beyond 50 m.p.h. You would think that Al "Inconvenient Truth" Gore's son would recognize that fact and drive at speeds to achieve the utmost fuel efficiency...

...like those crazies who have fine-tuned the glide technique and averaged 109 miles per gallon with a Prius. Yes, they got nearly 1,400 miles for one tank of gas. The sweet spot for fuel efficiency for the car is achieved by driving up to 39 m.p.h., followed by gliding down to around 30 m.p.h., going back up to 39 m.p.h., etc. I bet Al Gore's son only got around 350-400 miles per tank by comparison using his lousy driving technique.

The Liberal Avenger claims that Al Gore III was just trying to demonstrate that the Prius can be both sporty and safe by "showing off the car’s fluid handling and safety."

The Poll Truth thinks that he was testing the Prius's gas mileage.

Fuzz Martin wonders what his carbon footprint was at that speed.

Straightline thinks that the real story is that the Prius can even do 100 m.p.h. at all.

Bluey Blog has a picture of a Prius going so fast that it is flying off the road. Photoshop?
