Michael Contompasis retired as the Superintendent of the Boston Public Schools last Friday; he was recently replaced by Dr. Carol Johnson, former Superintendent of the Memphis and Minneapolis school systems.
Many in our community probably have memories of Contompasis in his long-time role as Headmaster of Boston Latin School. Contompasis's friends and colleagues have setup a website (using a blog) that people can post (via comments at the bottom) stories and memories of his many years of service in the school district.
Is he really retiring? No, according to the BPS public affairs blog. "On Friday, Mayor Thomas M. Menino appointed Mike as Director of Intergovernmental Relations and External Affairs for the City of Boston." Part of his new job's description will be to coordinate between the City of Boston and other governments (i.e., state and federal), but another part will be as "liaison between the [Menino] Administration and the Boston City Council." I guess the Mayor's Office and the City Council might sometimes seem as two different governments...
