While the race for the open Allston-Brighton District City Council seat might be the hottest one in town, there are other City Council races going on.
The District 2 race no longer has a challenger to incumbent Bill Linehan, because Ed Flynn has pulled out of the race, according to an official at the Boston Elections Department. Linehan won the South Boston/South End seat earlier this year in a special election. Flynn lost his bid for an At-Large Council seat in 2005 and also for the District 2 race in this year's special election. Assuming that Flynn does not offer a substitution by 5 p.m. today, Linehan will be unopposed. Unofficial word is that Flynn will be returning to military service instead of running for office.
Flynn's withdrawal means that five of the nine District City Council seats are unopposed in this fall's election.
Summary of the races at at Roslindale West Roxbury Transcript or A-B TAB, although note that these publications are out-of-date with respect to the District 2 race.
Detailed contact information for candidates is posted at "The BIG Campaign" blog (see comment posted at the bottom of that blog posting).
