Burning Artificial Turf in Arlington

An odd story from beyond the borders of Brighton:  vandals set fire to the artificial turf at the football field at Arlington High School.  Apparently, artificial turf does burn; WHDH's anchor, if shecan be believed, used the term "highly flammable" for the surface.  Unclear if cigarettes ignited the turf by themselves.  See the video story at WHDH-TV's website.

This story may have an impact on Boston College's IMP planning process, since they have proposed three artificial turf fields on the former St. John's Seminary property ("Brighton Campus").  Emergency services will have to plan to deal with burning turf, not just burning buildings.
