City-wide Police Officers Walking the Beat

Six new teams of nine police officers each will be walking the beat in high-crime areas of the city. These 54 officers are in addition to 18 who are already walking beats in similar, crime-infested areas of the city. Stories last week from the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe.

Allston-Brighton D-14 police officers walking the beat appear to be in addition to these numbers referred to in the Globe story. Brighton Center is not a "high-crime" area like parts of Dorchester or Mattapan. So the Boston Police Department's community policing initiative is likely a larger overall program than the teams they are touting to work the high-crime areas. As previously reported, Captain Genevieve King of D-14 is a proponent of community policing.
